VACCINE COLD CHAIN DRIVES DEMAND FOR FLUORINE CHEMICAL PRODUCTS, AND REFRIGERANT PRICES CONTINUE TO RISE
2020-12-29

Recently, refrigerant prices have picked up. According to relevant data, refrigerants R22 and R134a increased by 2.38% and 10.99% from the beginning of the month.

The rise in refrigerant prices is partly due to higher raw material prices. Huachuang Securities pointed out that dichloromethane, a raw material for refrigerant R32, and chloroform, a raw material for refrigerant R22, have increased by 60% and 100% since September. At the same time, other types of refrigerant raw materials have a large increase.

At the same time, demand for refrigerants is gradually being released. On December 12, Ruihui’s new crown vaccine has been authorized and approved, and R23 refrigerant is expected to be used in large-scale transportation in the future. In addition, due to the severe epidemic situation abroad, the order demand for downstream refrigerators and freezers of refrigerant has been transferred to China. Data show that from June to October, domestic exports of refrigerators and freezers increased by 35% and 65% year-on-year.

From the perspective of the supply side, since 2019, various companies have expanded production, leading to overcapacity. However, this year the impact of the epidemic has been superimposed, and many manufacturers have chosen to cut production for a long time to reduce losses. The consequence is that the current inventory is small and the supply is tight.

Benefited from the recovery of the refrigerant industry, the capital market of related companies performed well. Juhua shares and Sanmei shares have risen in recent days. Among them, Juhua shares have risen for three consecutive days since the 15th, a cumulative increase of 8.14%.

In the entire fluorine industry chain, as the depth of product processing increases, the added value and profit margins of products increase geometrically. According to relevant reports, based on the most primitive fluorite, the added value of fluoropolymer is 80-120 times that of fluorite. Not only that, fluoropolymers are widely used in many fields such as national defense, aerospace, new energy, medical care, etc., with broad development prospects.
