ITALY PASSES LAW TO IMPLEMENT KIGALI AMENDMENT
2022-02-15

The Italian government has passed the law to ratify and implement the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol to phase down HFC refrigerants.

The law, published in the Official Journal of the Italian Republic on February 9, commits Italy to the provisions of the Kigali Amendment to cut the production and consumption of HFCs by more than 80% over the next 30 years.

Italy’s ratification is yet to be included on the official UN Ozone Secretariat website, but it leaves just Spain and Malta of the 27 member states still to ratify, although Spain last month declared that it will apply the Amendment’s control measures and reporting obligations.
